![]() I once had a bad connection there and had no start condition from time to time. There is an ignition switch wiring with a small connector there that can get loose and cause all kind of weird problems. Posted: Mon 5:25 am Post subject: Re: 72 Ghia won’t startĬheck the red wire in the front trunk, by the fusebox. strap is the only connection from the battery to the starter to complete the circuit. nose cone to body for clean shiny contact and same with the battery to body ground strap and clean the battery connections to the straps. I can try tapping of the starter to see if that works. Could be the starter is locked up (tap it with a hammer while someone else engages the ignition). So you can turn the engine by hand, but the engine will not turn at all with the ignition button. Posted: Sun 2:10 pm Post subject: Re: 72 Ghia won’t start Sounds like she wants to blow up or worse, catch fire in my garage…. But with this humming noise, she’s not turning over at all. Yes, the engine turns, checked that with 19mm wrench on the pulley, and I’ve primed the carburetor. I’ve had the usual dead battery, unplugged or broken wire, clogged carb, and I’ve diagnosed all those typical issues and got her running again. Nothing is out of place, no wires loose, battery freshly charged… but I’m getting this worrisome humming noise when I push my ignition button.Īny ideas what could be causing the humming noise?. She ran great in the pass, after a couple cranks and a few pumps of the accelerator to prime the carb…. Tried again and again, no go.Ĭheck the battery voltage, it gives me 12.4’ish volts, so I know it’s not the battery. with that, I realized I hadn’t placed my fire extinguisher within hands reach, so I did. Disappointed, grabbed my cup of Joe, put it on the workbench, break out the battery charger/tender and crossed my fingers for good weather next weekend.īattery tender gives me a green light a couple days later, so, again - ignition on, push the start button and I get a humming noise as if something is stuck starter maybe?. So, break out the jumper pack, attach her as I’ve done in the past with first try results, no go. So, I went out to start her ignition on, push my start button, she started turning over, then realized the battery was beginning to lose crank power to a point “no reason to keep trying any longer”. In the past two weeks, the weather dropped into the 30s and 20s, then warmed back up to the 50s. Man, what a day two weekends ago … perfect weather in the high 50s, she started and ran like a champ two weeks prior, and I tucked her in and let her sit for about two weeks.
